My name is Marie Martell and I'm a mass media and writing student because I'm in love with words, images, and the stories they create. My coursework for the past 4 years has highlighted media convergence, theories, and its effects on individuals and society.

This isn't an ordinary media blog with structured reviews written after the careful dissection of a piece of media.

 

I aim to consider the process of media consumption, creation, and expression in a way that challenges the norm. 

 

Because of my chronic illness, I am in the unique position to consume media differently. I don't always sit down with intentions to digest the story to its fullest, artistic intent and all. Sometimes I watch nothing but Jane the Virgin because I desperately need the narrator's bright energy. Sometimes I make a mood board because I have no other way of expressing myself. Other times I avoid music for weeks, come back to my favorite album, and discover something new.

In 2020, I watch 46 television series, varying from one season to twelve.

 

Wild. I know.

I value compassion, and compassion doesn't come from rigidity. I hope to provide a relatable space to discuss the media we consume, why we consume it, and what it made us think or feel.

​

Sitting down with my cannabis and coffee in the morning is my favorite time of day. Sometimes I use these moments to create my own media or sit with my thoughts. Coffee is a space to share my personal media, and the reflections that come with it. And Cannabis is a space to explore the relationship between media and the controversial plant.

​

Blogs are a wonderful form of multimodal communication that is only inhibited by its perceived limits. I intend to use this space to explore combinations of media content to sharpen my multimodal communication skills while expressing myself creatively.
